Our Home is a Monument of Constructivism: Zotov Bakery No. 5

The Zotov Centre is a cultural space that introduces visitors to Constructivism, a groundbreaking twentieth-century Russian art movement that left a lasting mark on global art and architecture.

In 1922, Constructivist artists began to reshape the world through practice. A hundred years later, the Zotov Centre continues this legacy, revealing new meanings, keeping the movement alive, and encouraging personal engagement with avant-garde ideas

Zotov brings together contemporary artists, architects, designers, photographers, and young researchers to participate in its projects, giving Constructivism a fresh and relevant voice that speaks to today's audiences. Located in a Constructivist landmark, the Centre offers more than a museum experience. It invites visitors to immerse themselves in the era, becoming participants in its events and co-authors of ongoing research.

The Centre is located in the building of the former Bread Factory No. 5, named after the Soviet Minister of Food Industry, Vasily Zotov. The factory was built in 1931 to a design by engineer Georgy Marsakov and became the world’s first circular automated bread factory.

The architecture of Bakery No. 5 became a true Constructivist manifesto, and ninety years later, following a successful restoration, it became home to a centre dedicated to the study and development of the movement’s ideas.

Today, Zotov hosts exhibitions and lectures, workshops for children and adults, concerts of experimental and avant-garde music, book club discussions of early twentieth-century literary works, and screenings of new releases, modern classics, family films and archive footage with live accompaniment at the Zotov.Kino cinema. On the ground floor of the Centre is the Forum, a public exhibition space open to all, hosting temporary exhibitions, theatre performances and music events.

The Zotov Centre on Khodynskaya Street is not only a space designed for constructive dialogue between people and art, but also a meeting point for those who wish to spend their time with purpose and explore avant-garde ideas.
